Attention: Everyone outside of Québec (and/or the U.S.)... Arcade Fire DID win the Grammy.

Arcade Fire. They're one of U2's fav bands. They've been on the cover of Time Magazine. They sell out back-to-back shows at Madison Square Gardens. They have stadium sized tours of North America and Europe, and have become the indie music critics' darlings around the world...

But when they come away with the Grammy for Album-of-the-Year, for their 3rd Album, "The Suburbs" all of Canada's free daily's (and a few of the pay variety), either miss-reported that they lost all three of their nominations, or they didn't bother mentioning them at all.

Arcade Fire hails (quite proudly)  from Montréal.

That's right, and they received triple nominations - for "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals", "Best Alternative Music Album" and they WIN Album of the Year, yet all the Canadian free daily's can talk about is Lady Gaga's Eggcentric entrance (will someone please shoot that grotesque bitch, and take us all out of our misery. Let's reserve the accolades for folks whose talent goes beyond basic marketing prowess! I thought disco was dead!?!  Then again, after seeing her last night, there is a REAL possibility that she IS one of the living dead!! Somebody call Sookie Stackhouse!)

One has to ask whether they would be given more (Canadian) press if they hailed from Vancouver or Toronto instead of Montréal (or more specifically if they came from anywhere outside of Québec!).

Oh well. Now they've won an American award, so Canada can finally embrace them as "stars". (We would never be so bold as to accept one of our own - a band from Montréal no less - without prior American approval).

Our fawning love of all things American is  seemingly a requirement of citizenship which trumps even our complete lack of interest in anything coming out of La Belle Province!

So, if Americans like them, I guess it's OK for us to like them too!

(Even though they're from Canada - and worse... Québec!)

It should be noted that Justin Bieber, who "performed" at the Grammys, and was also a nominee, won nothing. Nada. Zip. If you MUST trust the Americans to guide our tastes, pay heed folks, they might just get it right from time to time. Naw! Not in my lifetime!
