Traditional Media's Journalistic Superiority

Let's face it, Bloggers on average, don't have any formal training. I certainly never studied Journalism (although I was educated in an age where basic literacy was a prerequisite to graduation - and I DID work with The Canadian Press(CP) early in my career). That being said, I'm sure there are more than a few grammatical and spelling errors among these pages...

While I can accept a few typo's in a newspaper, I expect a certain level of...umm...class, from print media. Now, I know that Sun Media Corporation's target audience is all those folks who graduated without first learning the "3 R's" (and I don't mean Ritalin, Revolvers and Rapiers), but today's Toronto Sun front page goes beyond poor taste.

On Tuesday of this week, Constable Artem Otchakovski became the first Peel Regional Police officer to lose his life in the line of duty. Kudos to The Sun for making this a front page story.

What I take issue with, is the wording of the headline. Somehow using "Living his Dream" on an obituary story just strikes me as inappropriate. I could accept, "He Lived his Dream" or "Proud to be a Cop", but "Living" ????

But what do I know, I'm just an untrained Blogger.
